The world of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), i.e. ensuring your website has the best chance of being found by Google (and other search engines) is a complex one which can feel overwhelming.
Having said that, there are 3 simple things which Google have stated that websites (and webpages) need to increase their chances of ranking well for search phrases. These are as follows :
Make the website HTTPS not HTTP
An HTTPS site means it is secure meaning that information sent to and received from the website is encrypted which helps keep the information safe from hackers.
We all want a safer and more secure internet and adding an SSL certificate to your website (making it begin with HTTPS not HTTPS) helps with this. Google also thinks this and from October 2017 will be ranking these websites higher.
Have a mobile friendly design
With over half of all website traffic coming from mobile devices, it’s important that your website works well on all devices (i.e. different screen sizes). A website which changes its layout depending on the device it’s being viewed on is known as responsive. Search engines rank responsive websites higher.
Having fast loading pages
Nearly half of website users expect a site to load in 2 seconds or less and people tend to abandon a site that isn’t loaded within 3 seconds. With this in mind, and knowing that search engines have page load speed as a ranking factor, why wouldn’t you want a fast loading site?
